Not only did he sell our home for the amount that we wanted, but he did it in the middle of a pandemic. I had not worked with Tom before. He had sent me a letter and business card after we had briefly listed our home as 'For Sale By Owner.' This letter introduced himself and told me about his discount commission services (nearly half what all the other agents charge). Well, trying to sell our home, ourselves, was a complete bust--the only inquires we received were from people wanting to sell us their services or investors wanting to wholesale our home. Tom stood out in a positive way, which catch my attention. I also researched his past listings, online, checking out the photos and descriptions (because, let's face it, that is what sells houses, today). I really did my homework. We had worked with a full commission real estate agent a couple years prior and while this person had a leading sales record for the area, they were not able to sell our house and the attention paid to us made it clear that our sale was not a priority (as our house was in the middle range of pricing. That agent sent out postcards, in our town, which only promoted homes in the top range of pricing, basically, mansions). We were a small fish to that other agent. I can say that Tom gave us everything that the full commission agent supplied and a lot more. It was such a pleasant change. In one month, Tom had as many showings as that other agent brought us in six months! He worked hard for us. High-quality photographs, a listing description that really sold all the positive aspects of our property, plus using assorted techniques to attract interested buyers (we did a small price reduction--which we had prepared for in the original pricing; relisted the property, so that it appeared new; held an open house, etc.). Communication with Tom was constant and responsive. He was always following up with a text message or a call. Tom also supplied us with the latest technology to handle the scheduling of showings, this great app that I could respond via text or email--no calls to an agent's office--it was great! It was such a positive experience, from the start to the finish of the transaction. He went above and beyond. I handed out his business cards to all my neighbors who have indicated that they may be selling soon. Why pay full commission for half the service? I have know Tom for over 15 years, which has given me ample opportunity to get to know him and discover that he is a man of character. My experiences with Tom fall into three broad categories: as a friend, working together in dramatic productions, and purchasing real estate. 0ver the years, each of these areas has revealed key characteristics that Tom possesses. As a friend, Tom is loyal and caring. When he asks how things are going, you can sense it is more than simply a greeting. He has genuine interest. The second area of contact has been productions staged at the church we both attend—productions where I have been the writer/director.
